Forty-six Days To Go!    by Alea J Farrar,  Willingboro, N.J.       nov07

You ask, what’s happening in forty-six days?
Thanksgiving! Family!  Friends!  Lots of love and laughter!
Oh yeah, lots of food too!!!!  This year Thanksgiving will be extra special because
my uncle Mo and his family are flying in from Tennessee and they're staying at our house.  Another
reason why it's going to be extra special is because my uncle Mo had a long battle with bladder
cancer and now he's 100% cancer free.  We are going to celebrate life.
Thanksgiving in my family is always something to remember.  For example my grandfather is a very
funny man.  He's from Georgia and he has a funny southern accent.  Instead of him saying "Gatorade,"
he says, "Gateyaide!"  Both of my grandma's love coffee so they run around the house making sure there's enough coffee, sugar and cream.  They also bring an emergency coffee kit just in case there's none at our house.  My uncle Mo loves sports and when he’s just relaxing around the house watching the game, he's usually in shorts and t-shirt with white sweat socks pulled up to his knees!!  I don't know why they have to be pulled up that high, I just know that it’s a funny site to see!!

The noise level in the house will be kind of high between my dad (he's very loud) and my uncles, watching the football games on TV, us kids playing and having fun and my mom, grandma’s and the rest of the family is the main reason why forty-six days is extra why forty-six special. My mom has planned a special toast in honor of my uncles’ recovery.  My mom has also ordered a special cake for him.  There will be champagne (of course us kids will be toasting with sparkling apple cider).  My sister and I are going to help my mom prepare thanksgiving dinner and everyone else will also bring a dish, dessert, etc.
It will be fun to sit around and listen to the funny stories of when my parents and their siblings were growing up.  When my sister and I are grown, we will continue the family tradition with our cousins, nieces, and nephews to come.  Even though Thanksgiving is still forty-six days away, I hope everyone has a safe and joyous holiday and are able to enjoy the presence of family and friends during the holiday season.  I can't wait!
