THE BATHTUB by Lisa Tatum
My best friend Melissa and I have known each other for five years. We have had many good and very funny times together in the past, however, June of 1999 leaps to the front of my mind as the best and funniest time yet!
In June of 1999 Melissa and I were staying at my condo in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina with my family. One of the days we were there it was very chilly outside, but we put on our suits and went for a swim anyway. The water was extremely nippy and when we got out the air seemed even colder. We were shivering so much that we decided to go upstairs and put very hot water into the bathtub. We climbed in with our suits still on. After a while we decided to wash up since it was getting late and we needed showers before we went to dinner. We both put shampoo in our hair and she stood up so I could get in and she could get out. We still had our suits on I might add.
"Melissa" I joked "if you fall I am going to laugh so hard!"
No sooner had I said the word "fall" when she fell. Not only did she slip, she fell out of the entire tub! Her feet were hanging over into the bath. She had tried to grab onto my arm for support, but she missed so she grabbed the curtain instead. As she fell it came down on top of her. The pole came out of the wall and fell on her head!
"Melissa" I exclaimed really wondering whether the wall would be damaged "are you okay?"
"Yeah" she replied slowly pulling the curtain off of her body as it was covering her like a blanket "But I think I knocked my noggin!"
By then the water from the showerhead was all over the bathroom as I had forgotten to
turn it off. I got back in to rinse my hair again, dried the floor, sink, toilet, and
finally put the pole back up. When I finished cleaning, we were both showered and dressed
it was time for dinner. When we arrived at the restaurant we both had a fun time telling
the rest of my family what all of the hullabaloo was. To this day I still laugh and tease
her about the fun we had in Kill Devil Hills.
