      Abstinence    by Christina Cetto

"NO! I will not have sex with you!" the girl abruptly answered as the
humiliated boy hastily turned around and briskly walked out of site. One can
only imagine what a comical site this may have looked like, yet teenagers
face these puzzling questions daily throughout the world, in a not so
comical manner. Abstinence! What a fundamental matter that is so commonly
disregarded.

The definition of abstinence is: a restraint from indulging a desire for
something, alluding to, sexual relations (Encarta Dictionary: English (North
American)). Whether or not one has ever thought of restraining them selves
from that type of action, it commonly crosses the path of teenagers all
across the globe every day. To pledge or not to pledge abstinence is a
choice. The right choice is where hopefully this article will take one. This
article will guide and lead not just teenagers, but anyone of any sex, race,
and age to make the right decision. Despite one's religion, what most people
would associate this behavior with, this plan or action can be a success and
benefit to everyone. In writing the article my goal is to encourage people
to make better choices and to realize what exactly it is one's getting into
when they engage in sexual relations.

To vow abstinence, one lives a different lifestyle. Why do I tell you this
and why am I qualified? Because I can firsthand tell people of the type of
lifestyle and how it's affected me, for I decided to take that vow on May
14th, 2004 at the tender age of 16. After much thought and fishing out the
pros and cons, the good most definitely out weighed the bad (not to mention
my religious background and strong love and relationship with God). Still,
regardless of religion, one should take careful consideration of the
promise.

I would be happy to hear from you when ever you have the chance.
