Insomnia -by Eddie Sergi
I lie still in my bed. Ever so still. Something caught my attention.
A tiny flash
of light. Then again, then again. A blinking of an unset clock. At first this was
nothing but a little annoyance. But seconds turned into minutes and minutes into
hours. Soon I could not lie even remotely still. No matter where I turned, there
was the infernal blinking. Reflecting against the dark ceiling or the shadowy walls.
I tried covering my head or closing my eyes, but no matter what, I could feel the
blinking. On, off, on, off. So l lay there helplessly, staring straight up with the
burning
flashes piercing the corner of my left eye. Blinking...blinking...blinking.
"Beast! I have done nothing to you! Why do you taunt me?
WHY?"
I close my eyes now harder, as hard as I can, but still there was that
eternal blinking!
"I will get up and destroy you! I will! I will!"...Blinking
...Blinking ...Blinking.
I never got up. I just lay there expecting it to stop on command, but I
was wrong.
It just kept going. The Beast never grew tired.
"Impossible!" I screamed. "You must grow tired sooner or
later!"
With that I started to tear at my eyes. "My eyes deceive me! They
deceive me!"
Slashing at my eyes now, using the nail, I can feel the blood trickle
down my fingers.
My eyes destroyed. The pain is incinerating. But through the blood glazed over my eyes
I could still see the flashing light. Blinking... blinking...blinking...
